In 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will carry out a total of 3 routine monitoring of the quality and safety of national agricultural products, sampling 23,398 samples in 5 categories of vegetables, fruits, tea, livestock and poultry products and aquatic products, involving 123 varieties and 136 parameters, and the overall pass rate will reach 98% for the first time, an increase of 0.2 percentage points over 2023.

According to reports, a total of 3,106 vegetable, fruit and tea production bases, 1,453 vegetable and fruit transport vehicles, 751 slaughterhouses, 475 breeding farms, 596 aquatic product transport vehicles, 1,498 temporary breeding ponds, and 2,366 agricultural product wholesale (farmer's) markets in 239 large and medium-sized cities in 31 provinces were sampled throughout the year. The monitoring results showed that the pass rates of vegetables, fruits, tea, livestock and poultry products and aquatic products were 97.9%, 98.2%, 99.2%, 99.3% and 96% respectively.

From the perspective of monitored varieties, edible fungi, stems and aquatic species in vegetables are all qualified; Brassica, melon and nightshade had higher pass rates, with 99.1%, 99% and 98.9%, respectively. Among the fruits sampled, apples and watermelons were all qualified, and the pass rates of grapes, pears and citrus were 98.9%, 98.9% and 96.1% respectively. Among the tea leaves sampled, the pass rates of black tea and green tea were 100% and 99.1% respectively. Among the livestock and poultry products sampled, the pass rates of pork liver, pork, beef, poultry eggs, mutton and poultry meat were 99.9%, 99.8%, 99.4%, 99.3%, 99% and 98.2% respectively. Among the aquatic products sampled, the pass rates of bighead carp, silver carp, carp, cruchi's prawn and prawn were 99.8%, 99.6%, 98.8%, 98.6% and 98.5% respectively.

In response to the problems found in the monitoring, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs has transferred the information of unqualified samples to the local agricultural and rural departments for timely disposal in accordance with the mechanism of follow-up inspection and reporting and transfer. In the next step, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs will adhere to the problem-oriented, strengthen the iron-fisted rectification of key problem varieties, improve the linkage and efficient risk early warning mechanism, build a classified supervision system for the production area, improve the ability of grassroots supervision and testing, implement precise policies, and guard the bottom line of agricultural product quality and safety from point to point.
